THE WHITE FLAG IS RAISED
Camel Racing (or Capall na gCulchie) is a new and innovative approach
to an idea that is around as long as time itself the sport of racing.
From the very start of time there has been competition and sibling
rivalry that has evolved into organized sport, as we know it today.
For many years now, race-nights have been a very popular and
successful method of fundraising for many charities and voluntary
organizations, but the interest in the existing format of running
pre-recorded races on a projector screen or television, is beginning
to wean. The novelty factor has vanished and the punter no longer
feels he is getting value for money. A new approach is needed to
rejuvenate race nights and we at Capall Na gCulchie believe we have
the missing ingredient to put the FUN back into race-nights.
Since our first race night in February 2002, where we raced three
horses for six races to raise the princely sum of €698, we have
developed our race nights to where we can, and have run 12 horses for
15 races raising €23,000 from one event alone The newest addition to
our stables are 12 Camels, they have been seen to raise the odd
eyebrow or two on arrival at a race venue where they can be used as an
alternative to the horses for racing.
